Jewellery Advice

EARS: Ask our piercer for advice at any time during piercing. There’s a wide range of jewellery that can be used in the ears from niobium to titanium to steel, there is also a wide range of clips that can be used including jewelled balls, semi precious beads and hearts etc. For stretched ear piercings we have a range of tubes and plugs to choose from. The smallest plugs obtainable are titanium which start at 3.2mm, all other types of plugs and tunnels tend to start at around 5mm. For the scaffold piercing, longer barbells are available both in steel and titanium. Microbells and short barbells can be easily used for piercings that go through the ear shell. We also stock a wide range of accessories, which are compatible with all 1.6mm threaded jewellery. As with all piercings, there is very little that is incorrect for the ear and a good recommendation is to experiment with different types of jewellery.

THE SEPTUM (inside tip of nose, just like a bull): This piercing suits many jewellery types; the most common is the keeper and then much more elaborate tusks and spikes for different occasions. The septum is very easily concealed if there is a problem with jewellery at work. A piece of jewellery which is commonly worn in the septum is a circular barbell, with this piece of jewellery the balls screw off so there is no need to mess around with circlip pliers (ring opening pliers) up your nose. This is a definite advantage. We have a range of tusks and spikes suitable for the septum, which gives you a distinctive tribal look.

NOSTRILS: Ideal pieces of jewellery for this type of piercing are both studs and rings. People who like the idea of a ring through the nose would be well suited with a ball closure ring or a bar closure ring. For a more subtle effect, a nostril stud is ideal with a small 3mm ball on a 1mm bar. For people who want it to be noticed, why try a titanium nostril stud that come in various colours and designs. For people looking for a more feminine touch, you should be looking at the extensive range of jewelled nostril studs.

TONGUES: With the tongue piercing it is advisable to stick with the barbell, you can always swap and change the ball for other more interesting pieces of jewellery such as jewelled balls and spikes although the latter does sometimes tend to cause a little discomfort at times. For those of you with well a healed tongue piercing, it is possible to stretch it using a higher diameter bar. Barbells come in various sizes ranging from 1.6mm to 10mm in thickness for tongues, but you must always remember not to rip the piercing while stretching it.

LIPS: This piercing is more of a personal choice when choosing your jewellery. Some people have a preference for rings; others have preferences for the labret stud. A more unusual alternative is the circular barbells although rings come in a wide range of colours, styles and sizes. Labret studs both come in titanium and steel and all 1.6mm studs can have many different tusks and spikes attached.

EYEBROWS: The thickness at which the eyebrow was pierced usually dictates the size of the jewellery you can wear. If it was pierced at 1.2mm then you’ll most probably have to stick with that diameter (consult your piercer for more details). Micro banana bells, Microbells and ball closure rings can be used, these come in many different sizes in a wide range of colours and metals. If your piercing is 1.6mm then you have more of a choice of jewellery as well as BCR, banana bell and barbell. You also have a choice of other types of jewellery such as circular barbells, tetra rings and most of the other jewellery that has a 1.6mm thickness but it is advised to consult your piercer who will be able to give you advice. There is also a range of accessories for the eyebrow such as a spike. This can be added in replacement for the ball.

NAVELS (Belly Button): It is advisable that before you change your piercing for different jewellery, you should go to your piercer and get your piercing measured. If you choose a banana bar, it looks better if it fits snugly to the piercing. Many people choose to wear a banana bar as this reduces to risk of it being caught on clothing when being worn. We stock a wide range of banana bars with different bar lengths, with or without jewels and different ball sizes. There are lots of different charms that can be added to this piercing and ball closure rings can also be worn. It is not advised to wear any type of jewellery that is straight, as this will encourage the piercing to grow out. If you suffer any problems with your piercing, you might like to try a PTFE banana bell.

It is advised that for ladies who are in the final stages of pregnancy and do not want to lose their piercing, it is found that PTFE to be quite useful and can also be worn during ultrasound scans as it doesn’t affect the pick up device.
